My Story When I heard I was adopted I was about four years old. I asked my mom "Why was I adopted?" "Why couldn't I stay with my birthmom?" My mom said that my birthmom could not take care of me. When I was four, my birthmom Stephanie sent a letter saying "Can I have a picture to see how big my birth daughter had grown?" So my parents sent a picture of me from kindergarten. When I was nine, my parents gave me two pictures of my birthmom for me to keep forever. What made it difficult was that when I was four I found out that I was not born of my adoptive mother Phyllis Lowinger. I felt bad because my sister was from my mom's stomach and I was from another woman's stomach. (Deborah Greene is a ten-year-old fifth grader. This essay was for a class project to write about something that was difficult.) Return to Articles & Books on
